e-tint lcd technology


e-Tint® technology relies primarily on a liquid crystal system. A mixture of dyes in a liquid crystal host is sandwiched between two curved flexible plastic substrates coated with transparent electrodes. By applying voltage to the substrates, the electro-optic response of the liquid crystal is used to control the tint of the insert.


The optical characteristics of our material are allow the Akari to be ANSI compliant, for the best visibility and a protection against UV and UVB rays. While most of the visors protect from 98% of the rays, the AX 12 offers and additional protection thou the liquid crystal and the polycarbonate layers.
Moreover, thanks to the anti-fog treatment, Akari will avoid the frustrating problem of the visors fogged up visor due to temperature changes and umidity, keeping the vision always clean and clear.


The AX12 insert can operate in traditional manual mode (on/off) by a simple press of the button, or in automatic, light-sensing mode. A light-sensitive photo cell is built into the AX12 button, enabling the insert to change the tint automatically. The AX12 is also easily programmable to automatically change tint in the lighting condition of your choosing.


The AX12 is produced with a high-quality and distortion-free polycarbonate plastic offering stronger durability and quality vision. The electronics are housed in a sleek and aerodynamic button that is mounted to the outer, left-hand side of the faceshield with an automotive grade, pressure-sensitive adhesive.

Extended hours of battery operation. Power forward

The Akari® system relies on an applied voltage to orient the liquid crystals and uses very little current. A fully charged battery offers at least thirty (30) hours of tinted operation, depending on usage. Leave a fully charged AX12 on the shelf and you will still have tinting power after 3 weeks. The AX12 is powered by a lithium battery, and is rechargeable via a supplied micro-USB cable.

Power fails. You don’t

The Akari® AX12 is equipped with a “fail-safe” mechanism to ensure your safety. In the event of a power failure, the eyewear will automatically default to clear.
